Description:

Nanigishkung Mii Maa Dewegewaad is a newly constructed 2,400-square-foot post-and-beam outdoor cultural pavilion built by Buttcon Limited on the John Snake Memorial Multi-Purpose Grounds for the  Chippewas of Rama First Nation. This meaningful space was created to preserve and celebrate the traditions that have shaped the strength and resilience of the Rama community.

Each year, the Chippewas of Rama First Nation host their annual Powwow at the John Snake Memorial Grounds on Rama Road, drawing thousands of visitors. As the event continued to grow, so did the need for additional facilities to support its expansion. In response, Buttcon partnered with the community, generous contributors, and trusted partners to bring this new event space to life—completing construction in just six weeks, in time for the 40th Annual Powwow.

The John Snake Memorial Grounds serve as a vital gathering place for Indigenous events, ceremonies, and educational activities. They foster connection, respect, and appreciation for the rich heritage of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. With increasing attendance and popularity, the need for enhanced infrastructure became clear. Thanks to the support of our clients and partners made this project a reality.

The pavilion features sustainable construction using locally sourced materials, open and flexible spaces for cultural ceremonies and community gatherings, and the integration of traditional Indigenous art and design created by Chippewas of Rama First Nation artisans. Nanigishkung Mii Maa Dewegewaad blends seamlessly with existing facilities and cultural elements, standing as a lasting legacy of cultural preservation, community collaboration, and celebration of Indigenous identity.
