Material Purchasing Coordinator

Summary

Responsible for the purchase and rental of general and specialized equipment and materials for construction projects.

 Responsibilities

  • Manage the material, initial site mobilization (trailers, washrooms, fencing, hoarding, surveying, etc.) and rental purchasing process
  • Obtain competitive pricing from several suppliers
  • Analyze pricing received to ensure prices are complete and comparable
  • Compare pricing to budget
  • Negotiate and finalize order of material
  • Prepare material purchase orders and distribute/process accordingly
  • Interact with Project Team (Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Site Superintendents) as well as the Accounting Team
  • Interact with Supplier and Rental Companies
  • Manage/update a database of material suppliers and rental companies
  • Manage/update the tool and equipment registry
  • Assist in the tender analysis of some Division 8 (Hollow metal doors, Hardware, Wood Doors, Automatic Operators, etc.) and Division 10 (Washroom Accessories, Louvres, Foot Grilles, etc.) purchases

 Chief Estimator

Summary

Buttcon East Limited is looking for a confident a Chief Estimator to join the team. The ideal candidate will have a background in estimating for a general contractor and will demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to accuracy.

The estimator is responsible for calculating the total cost of a project including labour, trades and material costs. This includes identifying and researching suppliers/sub-contractors, preparing and evaluating requests for quotations from suppliers/sub-contractors, checking estimates for accuracy, presenting the prepared estimate, and working with the team on budgeting and cost control.

 Responsibilities

  • Maintain an excellent rapport with all clients, sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Read and interpret drawings, plans and specifications
  • Produce comprehensive take-offs for various size projects
  • Review documents in detail to ensure accurate pricing from sub-contractors/suppliers
  • Prepare final estimates for clients based on needs and company profitability margins
  • Manage multiple simultaneous estimation projects with consistent on time delivery
  • Follow up on submitted bids
  • Negotiate and administer scope changes in current projects
  • Innovate new ideas for improving the estimating process
  • Develop metrics for measuring cost-effectiveness of materials and techniques
  • Maintain files and records of work
  • Resolve issues and recommend solutions for successful project outcomes
  • Manage estimating Team Members

Education/Qualifications

  • Educational background in construction or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of Estimating experience for a General Contractor
  • Knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures

Junior Marketing Coordinator

Summary

Support and assist the Marketing Team on various projects and in general administrative activities in the department.

 Responsibilities

  • Review of prequalification and proposal documents, ordering required bonding, financial and insurance documents and preparing responsibility matrices.
  • Preparation of drafts and assembly of prequalification and proposal documents.
  • The preparation of Buttcon Brochures for Manager of Business Development.
  • Assist with updating the TV screen at reception, internal and external websites and other marketing materials.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of all Buttcon events including; golf tournaments, picnic, client appreciation nights/ biannual party, children’s Christmas party and Buttcon’s staff Christmas party.
  • Update marketing content on Cosential database.
  • Collecting detailed project information for all new projects.
  • Follow up with owners/consultants about the status of prequalification’s and proposals.
  • Tasks assigned by the Technical Proposal Specialist and Creative and Communications Specialist as required.

 Senior Project Manager

Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading project teams for one or more projects, while managing all aspects of the project life cycle ensuring required performance deliverables of quality, cost and schedules are achieved.

 Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the project
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with owners, architects, consultants, trades & public, while promoting Buttcon’s services and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Ensure compliance with Buttcon’s Health and Safety Program, provide key leadership, set examples, ensure safety minutes are provided
  • Ensure compliance to Buttcon’s Policy & Procedures Manual
  • Supervise, mentor, coach and train project personnel
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding with the terms of contract documents
  • Ensure Notice of Project is issued
  • Ensure that all permits, insurance and bonding are in place
  • Assist in the tendering and award of trade contracts
  • Convene pre-construction meeting
  • Ensure material and subcontractor tenders are issued in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all subcontractors receive drawings and specifications
  • Manage the budget process
  • Participate in the design process when required
  • Manage the value engineering process when required
  • Prepare the baseline schedule; maintain and update it throughout the project. Track delays and apply for Extensions of Time and additional costs. Ensure letter of delay are issued when required.
  • Manage the Change Order process
  • Manage cash allowances
  • Manage and resolve contractual and technical issues with consultant’s and trades
  • Prepare and present monthly Project Cost Reports
  • Prepare a cash-flow and update it as required
  • Prepare monthly progress billings and monitor receipt of payment certificates
  • Review and authorize sub-trade and material payments and ensure accurate cost coding
  • Ensure that sub-trade/supplier’s accounts are reconciled
  • Process shop drawings/ samples
  • Ensures submittal log and RFI logs are prepared and implemented
  • Conduct regular site reviews and meetings; ensure that minutes are distributed accordingly
  • Deal with all day to day correspondence and ensure that the job site receives all correspondence in a timely manner
  • Apply for substantial performance and total completion
  • Ensure that deficiencies are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all final monies are received at the end of project
  • Act as a liaison between all Project Team members, both internal and external
  • Assist in securing new work by participating in estimates, proposals and presentations as requested

  • Engineering degree (Civil/Construction/Architectural) or Technical College diploma in Construction Management or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Project Manager in the ICI construction industry or equivalent in ICI construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling and safety requirements
  • Gold Seal Certified an asset
  • LEED Accredited an asset
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project
  • Suretrak, Primavera P3 or P6
  • Axis Accounting Software an asset
  • Procore and BIM software knowledge an asset

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Primary work locations are Head Office and Project Sites
  • Project related travel anticipated
  • Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons
