Description:

The Ma-te-Way Activity Centre Expansion was a major project built as an extension to the existing arena in Ma-te-Way Park. The significant 76,500 sq ft expansion was successfully completed and included several vital features designed to cater to the needs of the growing community.

One of the key elements of the expansion was the Indigenous Cultural Centre, designed to honour and share the rich heritage and traditions of the local indigenous community. Alongside this, a National Hockey League-sized ice rink was constructed, providing a considerable space for both recreational and competitive ice sports. The ice rink has seating capacity to accommodate a large number of spectators.

The expansion also included an elevated walking track and a state-of-the-art fitness centre, offering varied wellness options for the local community. A regulation-sized gymnasium was also part of the project, serving as a hub for numerous sporting activities and events.

In addition, the expansion created several multipurpose rooms and expanded the Parks, Recreation and Facilities department, providing increased capacity and flexibility for community activities and events. The project also introduced administrative offices and lease space, essential for the operation and maintenance of the facility.
