Michael A. Butt, P. Eng., Chairman and CEO and Director
He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Buttcon Limited a Company he started in 1979. Michael is also Executive Chairman of Buttcon Energy Inc. a Company he founded with partners in 2006. Michael Butt graduated in 1963 with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto.
After graduation he joined Mitchell Construction Canada as a site Engineer. In 1966 he was transferred to Barbados to start their Caribbean Operation and was the Managing Director. In 1969 he was transferred to South Africa also as Managing Director to start their African operations and continued there until 1973 when he returned to Canada.
Michael has been a member of the Board of Directors of Aecon Group Inc. since 1994. He is presently the Chairman of their Audit Committee.
Michael is a former Director of both the Ontario General Contractors Association (“OGCA”) and the Canadian Construction Association (“CCA”) and served as Chairman of the OGCA in 1998 and as Chairman of the CCA in 1999.
Shortly after the transfer in 1996 of Pearson Airport from the Federal Government to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Michael was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors and remained in that capacity until December 2004.
Michael was formerly a member of the Board of Governors for Trent University and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.
The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering honoured Michael with the distinction of Fellow in May 2006. In 2008 the Canadian Design Build Institute honoured Michael with the distinction of Fellow. In 2011 University of Toronto Engineering Alumni Association honoured Michael with the Hall of Distinction award.
Peter S. DiGaetano, President and COO, Buttcon Limited & Director, Buttcon East Limited
Peter has been in the construction industry for over thirty years, and joined Buttcon in 1981. He has been a shareholder since 1988, and in 1995 Peter joined the Board of Directors where he was appointed Vice President, Contracts. He has filled various management positions over his 30 years’ experience with Buttcon where he was responsible for awarding contracts, allocating project management resources and business development, all of which prepared him for his current position as Buttcon Limited’s President and COO.
Michael Mercier, President and COO, Buttcon East Limited
Michael has over 20 years of experience within the ICI industry with specific experience in Construction Management and Design Build projects. Recent experiences have also resulted in knowledge of public private partnership projects. Initial career experience as a Project Manager with a significant regional General Contractor facilitated the evolution of his previous ownership position of Milestone Construction. Michael’s extensive experience and connections in Eastern Canada make him to be a valuable asset to the Buttcon family.
Pina Massara, Vice President Finance
Bringing with her an extensive understanding of accounting functions, Pina joined Buttcon in 1982. She was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1999, and was promoted to Controller shortly after. Pina oversees all financial accounting and reporting activities, and ensures that all procedures adhere to industry practice. She develops and maintains the internal accounting systems including budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
Mark A Butt, Vice President Construction
Mark joined Buttcon in 1989 as a Site Superintendent. In 2010 he was given the position of Construction Manager. In 2011 Mark was appointed to Vice President, Construction. Mark brings a wealth of hands on construction experience as a past General Superintendent and senior staff member. As our Vice President of Construction, Mark provides support to the Project Managers during both pre-construction and construction stages.
Mark Rowlands, Vice President Operations
Mark joined Buttcon in 2010 as Vice President Operations. With many years worked in the construction industry, Mark has extensive experience with many complex projects. Mark has experience with project delivery, aggressive scheduling, team building, coordination and direction, multi-stakeholder project, project governance, and communication. Mark is responsible for seamless coordination among sub-trades and clients, as well as the everyday construction and administration operations of a company.
